WELCOME HOME! We continue to grow, what began as few Households in Kilworth Avenue getting together and forming a neighbourhood watch has grown in a year to take in Cromer Road, Hastings Road, a section of Southchurch Avenue and York Road. We are now also in the process of formalising a residents association details here or by clicking the Resident Association tab above. This has always been a forgotten section of Southend for years it was on the cusp of 3 separate wards within the borough. It became a hunting ground of unscrupulous landlords, who filled their cheaply bought property with some of the most vulnerable members of society at the expense of both the public purse and also the area in general This was in stark contrast to its previous history as the premier area in the borough, Kilworth Avenue and its surrounding streets have glorious architecture, fine old homes, wide tree lined avenues all in all, and given its close proximity to both the town centre and 3 mainline rail services into London with travel times as low as 40 minutes it is or at least should be the Jewel in the crown of the Borough of Southend on Sea. So we and that is the Royal we as in everyone that has joined up in Kilworth Avenue, which is the vast majority of households have set about reversing the rot, and in the last year or two Kilworth Avenue has undergone a renaissance. Several homes have been recovered to family use having previously been in the hands of Slum Landlords. We have stamped down on anti-social behaviour, and built strong and worthwhile partnerships with the Police and some council agencies also with big business, C2C painted the subway between Hastings Road and Lancaster for us with anti-graffiti, something we now maintain. Kilworth Avenue is now a cleaner, safer and happier place to live. It also has what you cannot buy at any price, a strong community spirit and a hardcore of people that rather than waiting for the problems to be fixed which will happen around the same time as hell freezes over, get out and get agencies and companies alike on side. We are therefore delighted to welcome into the fold residents in surrounding streets and to encourage them to join in and build community in their areas and the area as a whole. What we cannot do is do this for people, the will has to be in the area, for the area to change. We recently had a very successful meeting at Porters (the mayors residence) hosted by the Mayor at which we asked residents in all of the streets to bring ideas forward. More on the meeting and ideas to follow One concept floated by the Chairman of the meeting was that of Homezones as a way to combat some of the problems we have in the area with a more holistic and long term approach.
