Message in the Bottle
Message in a Bottle is a new way of reassuring those who live alone and of
saving lives. The bottle is kept in the fridge and contains details of the
person's next of kin, medical condition and doctor, so that the information can
be found easily in an emergency.
It can be a simple but effective lifesaver It works like this, you receive a
plastic bottle, inside you will find two green stickers with a green cross on a
white background; a long white, green & black sticker (to be placed on the
outside of the bottle); a black & white printed form (for your details). Place
one of the small stickers on the outside of your fridge door. Place the other
sticker on the inside of your front door. Make sure it cannot be seen from the
outside of your home - you don't want to advertise the fact that the scheme is
in operation in your home to unscrupulous persons!
Write the relevant information on the form provided and place it into the bottle
and replace the cap. Place the bottle in the fridge.
In the event of the event of the emergency services being called to your house
and you being unable to communicate with them, the contents of the bottle could
contain vital information. This scheme has saved the lives of a number of people
across Essex to date.
Bottles can be obtained from all Southend Borough Libraries and Police Stations
or by calling the Mick Holland (Borough NW Administrator) on 01702 464199
